Outwood Grange Academy achieves high accolades for career provision from Ofsted

Working in partnership with Progress Careers, Outwood Grange Academy (OGA) has developed a strong career provision for their students, highlighted in their most recent Ofsted report which stated that Outwood “prepares pupils well for the next stages of their education or employment.”

Inspectors praised the “impressive careers programme” OGA have established, with students of all ages receiving “the support needed to make well-informed decisions about their futures”. The report also states how “nearly all pupils move into education and employment when they leave school”.

This incredible result demonstrates the transformative effects of CEIAG and the need to provide students with expert career provision. Working with 28 schools within the Outwood Academy Trust, Progress Careers have supported over 6,200 students in the past academic year alone. Career Adviser’s Vanessa Norton and Caroline Rosser take care to provide an extensive and inclusive career provision, with 1:1 sessions for all students at Outwood Grange Academy itself. One student commented,

“I do not come to school, so it was good that someone contacted me at home.”

The advisers guarantee all students receive the CEIAG they deserve, out of 127 students asked, 99% of students agreed that their career programme “helped me decide what I need to do next” and 100% would recommend it to others. For students unable to attend school, Progress Careers offer a number of interventions to suit individual circumstances. From physical home visits, to live chat, phone calls and virtual guidance appointments. Outwood Grange Academy also have access to a number of free resources to use within their schools to bolster the students personalised career guidance sessions.

Students from Year 9 upwards receive some form of careers intervention. With many of year 9 and 10 students extending their appreciation for receiving the support before entering year 11,

“It’s good to talk to someone before Year 11 so that I am organised.”

Andrew Downing, Principal of Outwood Grange Academy said in a recent report,

“I am incredibly proud of all the positives highlighted in this Ofsted report which reflect the dedication of our school community.

The ‘Outstanding’ judgement for our Personal Development curriculum is a testament to our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who are well prepared to succeed in all aspects of life. We are determined to build on this success and continue providing the highest quality education for all our students.”

Paula Thompson, Managing Director of Progress Careers commented,

“We are delighted to work closely with such a pioneering trust who are dedicated to their career provision. It is admirable to see how seriously they take their students’ CEIAG and the benefits are evident by the high number of students that positively progress beyond years 11 and 13 and make well informed decisions about their next steps.”

Outwood Grange Academy is one of 92 schools currently supported by Progress Careers across the North East, The whole of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, The Humber, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and the North West.
