CEIAG stands for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance.

The purpose of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their future education and career paths.
A careers adviser is a professional who provides expert advice and guidance to individuals on their career choices, helping them to understand their options, identify their strengths and interests, and plan future education and career paths. They offer guidance on choosing suitable careers based on interests and skills, assist with job search strategies, and help prepare effective job application materials.

Career advice typically offers practical help, directing individuals to information about learning and work opportunities. However, career guidance provides a more in-depth engagement, where an adviser explores an individual’s interests, skills, aptitudes, and attitudes. This comprehensive approach helps align a person’s career path with their personal attributes and long-term goals, offering a deeper, more personalised level of support.

The Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework of eight guidelines that define the best practices for providing Careers Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance to young people in schools and colleges in the UK. They were developed to ensure that all students receive high-quality career guidance that helps them make informed decisions about their future.
