Careers guidance works best when it’s timely, personal and genuinely impartial. But delivering that consistently isn’t always easy for schools working with limited capacity, tight timetables and competing priorities. Virtual careers guidance is changing that equation, giving schools a way to access expert support exactly when and how their students need it, without geography, staffing pressures or rigid scheduling getting in the way.

For students, the benefits are immediate. A one-to-one session with a qualified, impartial Careers Adviser, delivered over video call rather than in person. It still offers the same depth of conversation, the same space to explore options and ask questions, and the same quality of guidance. What changes is accessibility. Students who might otherwise wait weeks for the next available session, or who need a little more time and attention than a packed careers calendar allows, can get meaningful support sooner. And for some young people, a virtual setting can even feel more comfortable as they could log on from home, meaning students who are not in attending school on a consistent basis for a range of reasons can now access impartial guidance and talk openly about their future.

For schools, virtual delivery solves some familiar problems. Flexibility and capacity. Demand for careers guidance rarely arrives evenly across the year. Post-16 applications, UCAS deadlines or unexpected staff absence can all create sudden spikes in need. Virtual guidance gives schools a flexible way to bring in extra capacity exactly when it’s needed, without the commitment of a fixed contract. Whether that’s supporting a particular year group, running a whole cohort through appointments in a short window, or simply keeping momentum going during a busy patch.

It also strengthens the bigger picture. Embedding structured, impartial guidance more easily into a school’s careers programme supports the wider CEIAG strategy and helps schools evidence progress against the Gatsby Benchmarks. This ensure that every student has genuine access to the individual guidance and support that helps them make informed, confident decisions about their next steps.

Ultimately, virtual careers guidance isn’t about replacing the personal touch that makes good careers advice effective, this is our bread and butter after all, it’s about extending it. It means high-quality, one-to-one guidance can reach more students, in more schools, at the times they need it most.

And from September 2026, we’re excited to say we now offer exactly that. Virtual careers guidance delivered by our expert Level 6 or 7 qualified advisers via Microsoft Teams, with the flexibility to shape the delivery around 1 to 1 sessions, group workshops, assemblies or parent/carer-inclusive sessions, and hours that can run from 10am to 6pm to fit your school’s schedule.
